Private School Multiplier Could Disappear ![]() WBGZ Radio | Sep 8, 2010 An effort is under way to do away with the 1.65 enrollment multiplier for private schools that participate in Illinois High School Association events. The multiplier, in effect for five years, classifies private schools based on their enrollment x 1.65, whereas public schools are classified based on their non-adjusted enrollment. [Full Story] |
Ameren Increase Re-Hearing Requested ![]() WBGZ Radio | Sep 7, 2010 The Illinois Commerce Commission in June ruled to allow the re-hearing of Ameren's 130-million-dollar rate hike request, and now the utility is taking them up on that decision. The utility says it needs an extra $53-million in electricity and gas delivery charges due to pensions, accumulated depreciation on plants in service, and working capital. Earlier this year, the ICC ruled Ameren would only get a 14.7-million dollar increase, but now will allow certain parts of the proposed increase plan to be reviewed. [Full Story] |
Sears Building Renovations Progressing ![]() WBGZ Radio | Sep 7, 2010 The former Sears and Snyder buildings on Piasa Street went back on the market earlier this summer after Alton officials shifted its focus for a new hotel development to the former Great Central Lumber Company property. A bridal shop may soon be moving into the Piasa Street buildings, or a least part of the buildings. There is currently work underway to demolish a portion of the old Sears building and reface the north side.[Full Story] |
UPDATE: Man Robs East Alton Store ![]() WBGZ Radio | Sep 7, 2010 The Madison County Sheriff's Department continues to track down leads as they look for a man who is wanted for robbing the Farm Fresh Store on East Airline Drive in East Alton Sunday night. Police say the man walked into the store and told two clerks he needed money and that there were more men outside with guns. Police say the man got away with a small amount of money, and neither employee was injured. [Full Story] |
Traffic Ticket Fine IncreaseWBGZ Radio | Sep 7, 2010 Drivers caught speeding in Illinois will soon have to fork over more cash to cover the cost of the fine. Starting September 15th, the price of a basic speeding ticket will jump from 75 to 120-dollars. Other fines will go up as well, including ones for not wearing a safety belt and driving drunk.[Full Story] |
