A competition with the goal of better connecting the city of St. Louis to the Arch Grounds may mean added tourism dollars for the entire region. The competition to re-do the landmark in time for its 65th anniversary in 2015 will include the East St. Louis Riverfront. Brett Stawar, President of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau, says that, in turn, could be a boon to the entire regional tourism industry. [Full Story]

Wood River Police were holding 36 year old James Iler of the 200 block of 8th in Wood River for DUI, suspended drivers license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, attempting to elude and two outstanding warrants. 23 year old Kyle Stilts of the 1300 block of Milton in Alton, held on an outstanding warrant for battery. 42 year old Toby Hughes of the 3800 block of Norris Lane in Brighton, held for retail theft.[Full Story]
Illinois ACT Scores

Illinois high schoolers ACT scores rank number one of the eight states that test more than 90-percent of their students. Illinois State Board of Education Spokesperson Mary Fergus says students statewide turned in an average score of 20-point-one on the college entrance exam.[Full Story]

Two of Illinois' top Democrats used their party's day at the State Fair to launch a sixteen-city tour to talk about jobs. Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is running for U. S. Senate against U. S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Highland Park). Giannoulias is attacking Kirk's voting record on jobs, including Kirk's reversal of his intention to vote for additional federal money which, Giannoulias says, can help save six thousand teaching jobs in Illinois.[Full Story]

NEW: One Killed in Crash Near Bridge

A St. Louis man is dead after he apparently lost control of his minivan and crashed into standing water along Highway 67 in West Alton, just south of the Clark Bridge. The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victim as 39 year old Major Daniel. Witnesses reported seeing a van go out of control on the southbound lanes of the highway, go end over end, and come to rest upside down in water. [Full Story]

Ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich was found guilty on a single count of making a false statement to the government, but he vows he will fight that charge and the other 23 charges likely to come up when they retry him. Jurors couldn’t make a unanimous decision on those other counts and the judge in the case declared a mistrial with respect to those counts. [Full Story]

Alton Police expect to file charges against a woman who claimed she was robbed on the parking lot of Farm and Home Supply yesterday. Detectives working the case now believe the woman made up the story that someone forced her into a car just after 10:30am yesterday and made off with her purse and the store's receipts.[Full Story]
Glazebrook Soil Modification Approved  This News Story Contains Audio

The Glazebrook Park expansion dominated the discussion at last night's special meeting of the Godfrey Village Board. The village received an OSLAD grant two years ago to move forward with the work that is currently underway, but it must be finished by the end of the year. The wet summer has made that difficult to achieve without approving more work, and additional expense.[Full Story]
