Recovery from the recession will take more time, according to a monthly report from the University of Illinois . Fred Giertz, an economics professor who compiles the Flash Index for the university’s Institute of Government and Public Affairs, says the current recession is probably the worst of most of our lifetimes in terms of its length, though 1980 – at its deepest – was probably worse.[Full Story]

The Illinois State Water Survey says the summer months were wet and warm, and has the numbers to prove it. State climatologist Jim Angel says the summer—June through August—brought 16.7 inches of rainfall, which was 5.2 inches above normal, ranking as the sixth rainiest summer on record. [Full Story]

The Illinois High School Rodeo Association runs eight rodeos in the fall and spring, crowning state champions in several events. Those winners then go to a national championship in Wyoming.
