Just after 7:30pm, two masked men carrying a handgun allegedly held up the bartender at the Scenic Lounge on Homer Adams Parkway. A Brooklyn, Illinois man is being held in the Madison County Jail after a traffic stop in Alton led to the alleged discovery of over 20 grams of crack cocaine. Police say 40-year-old Lewayne Jones of the 500 block of Adams in Brooklyn is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance following his arrest at about 1:20am Friday morning.[Full Story]

If you think you have what it takes to mentor a young boy or girl, the Alton School District launched a program in January that needs people with those skills. The "Raise Your Hand" Mentoring Program is based on a four-year Safe Schools/Healthy Students Federal Grant to pair responsible and caring adults with students in need of someone to look up to. Organizers say they have had a successful kick-off and are hoping to reach more kids this school year.[Full Story]

Alton Police were holding 24 year old Jamour Ballinger of the 800 block of Washington in Alton for no drivers license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. 20 year old Tobias Wood of the 600 block of East 8th in Alton, held for domestic battery. 34 year old Roy Richardson of the 1300 block of Belle in Alton, for suspended-revoked drivers license.
