Man Arrested After Approaching Girls

An East Alton man remains in police custody after an arrest over the weekend. 22 year old Michael Church of the 300 block of West Main Street is a convicted sex offender and is accused of attempting to lure two girls into his home on Saturday. Police were notified of the alleged incident when the girls reported the strange behavior to an adult.[Full Story]

The Armed Forces Museum based in Alton is in a state of limbo. It needs to get all of its equipment out of the Cut Street facility, but doesn't have a new home. There are a couple of offers on the table, but those offers take the machinery out of the Riverbend. The museum has been around for 25 years- first housed in St. Louis, then Granite City, and for the last 12 years in Alton. [Full Story]

A St. Louis police officer involved in an off-duty shooting in Pontoon Beach has pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm resulting from a 2008 incident at a Pontoon Beach bar. Bryan Pour entered the plea for his involvement in the shooting outside Mack and Mick's Place Bar on Route 203, just south of Interstate 270. [Full Story]

A Labor Day Weekend Tradition continues this weekend, with the annual Jersey County Victorian Festival. The theme is "Where the South meets the North and the Wild West." There will be demonstrations of dueling, a Civil War reenactment, a marketplace, live music, and plenty of Victorian-era fashion and food.[Full Story]
Tickets Issued in Accident Near School

A school bus driver, and another motorist, was ticketed after a traffic accident near Alton High School last week. The crash occurred at Humbert Road and Union School Road, and forced about 20 students to evacuate a school bus. There were no serious injuries reported in the incident.[Full Story]
Men Charged with Mob Action

Two men were arrested in Godfrey Saturday night after allegedly fighting with another man in Edwardsville earlier in the day. 20 year old Joseph Patterson (pictured) of the 300 block of Roosevelt in Wood River and 27 year old Kenneth Sanders of St. Louis have been charged with mob action after police say they, and a third man, fought with the victim at his home.[Full Story]
Iron and Metal Thefts Increase  This News Story Contains Audio

Scrap thieves are hitting rural Macoupin County on a more regular basis, according to Sheriff Don Albrecht. He says many of the stolen iron and other metals have come from unattended farm storage sites and outbuildings on farmsteads. In some cases, the thieves have targeted pieces of older or unused machinery left sitting for extended periods of time on unoccupied private property or in remotely located sheds or buildings.[Full Story]
Police Reports for Tuesday

Illinois State Police are investigating an injury accident in Greene County that injured a man from Jerseyville. 56 year old Larry D. Price was reportedly driving all over the roadway, according to a police report, and eventually overturned on U.S. 67 south of Woody Road. He was taken to a hospital in Carrollton and then airlifted to St. John's Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur with critical injuries. [Full Story]

A new TV ad by the Pat Quinn campaign is causing a stir among gun experts. The ad shows what the narrator calls an assault weapon, and claims Quinn’s opponent in the race for governor, state Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington), opposed any ban of this gun. But Brady says the gun is already illegal in Illinois, and that police could be removing these guns from the streets.[Full Story]

Illinois is seeing mixed results in terms of vaccinations newly recommended for teenagers. The Centers for Disease Control says 59 percent of Illinois teenagers have been inoculated for whooping cough, 53 percent against meningitis and 34 percent against HPV – numbers that are, respectively, ahead of, even with and behind the national average. The vaccination rates are slightly higher in Chicago than in the rest of Illinois. [Full Story]
