World Record Likely Achieved

Story by WBGZ Radio

The head of the recent world record attempt at SIUE thinks they met their goal and then some with the recent "Longest Line of Books" effort. The old record set last year in the United Kingdom was a 1.4-mile line with about 13,500 books. The effort last week included 20,048 books that stretched nearly three miles.

SIUE Professor of Psychology, Stephen Hupp tells The Big Z it's now on to the verification process.

The completed documentation will be submitted in a week or so, and then it could take up to 12 weeks for approval, according to Hupp. All donated books will be given to local literacy projects and organizations. The majority will be donated to local Head Start programs, with more the Greater St. Louis Book Fair, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and a possible library start-up in Ghana.
