Prescription Drug Take Back Numbers

Story by WBGZ Radio

The Madison County Sheriff and Police Chiefs from around Madison county are continuing to take part in the "RX 4 Safety" prescription drug initiative. The initiative is a collective effort, between the community and law enforcement to protect the environment from improper disposal of medications. Secure drop off bins are available 24 hours a day at local police stations.

Madison County Sheriff John Lakin tells the Big Z since the program was implemented in April of 2015, the Sheriff's office has disposed of over 5,000 pounds of medication.

Lakin also said that the program not only helps protect the environment but also keeps what can be dangerous drugs out of the hands of kids.
