Story by WBGZ Radio

2017 was a record year for tourism in Illinois, and the local tourism bureau says the statewide numbers reflect what's happening locally. Nearly 114-million people visited Illinois last year, up three percent from 2016.

Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau spokesman Stephanie Tate tells The Big Z 2018 is starting out strong too.

17% of travelers came to Illinois for business in 2017, and 83% for pleasure. The state's tourism industry supports more than 335,000 jobs. Officials credit marketing campaigns promoting fall travel, artisans of Illinois, and more with the increases.
