Senate Approves Teacher Pay Raise

The Illinois Senate has approved a hike in the minimum salary for teachers. The bill gradually raises the salary requirement, starting with $32,000 starting with the 2019-2020 school year, ending at $40,000 by 2022.

Critics wonder how schools will pay for the new mandate, but State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) had this to say:

The last time the legislature set a minimum salary was back in the 80's at $9,000. The bill now moves to the House for debate.
