For the first time in the 10 year history of the event, Alton's Downtown Block Party has been cancelled. Organizers made the decision mostly due to the extreme temperatures that have been baking the Midwest over much of the past week, according to Downtown Alton Incorporated President Mac Lenhardt.

Lenhardt says the city is not to blame for the asphalt situation, as they were at the mercy of a broken piece of equipment early in the process, and the challenges of the extreme temperatures this week. Hicktown, a country / rock band with a large local following, was scheduled to play at the block party. They will now play at Mac's Time Out in the Beer Garden.
