Jerseyville Considers Electric Aggregation

Story by WBGZ Radio

Add Jerseyville to the growing list of communities considering electric aggregation.  Earlier this year, Alton, Bethalto and Godfrey voters approved entering into an agreement with a broker to provide cheaper electricity.  The Jerseyville City Council voted at its last meeting to place the question on the November ballot to ask voters if they would like to do the same.

During the primary election this year, 51 communities around Illinois approved the referendum and signed a 24-month contract at a rate of four cents per kilowatt hour, brokered by Good Energy.  Citizen's Utility Board spokesman Jim Chilsen says right now, it is very possible to lock in a lower rate for the short-term.

Chilsen comments

Chilsen says consumers should ask many questions before deciding which way to vote, including what happens if the Ameren price comes down by the end of the year, if there is an exit fee, or will you be locked in for a certain time.
