Route 140 Project Remains On Schedule

Story by WBGZ Radio

The Illinois Department of Transportation is at least on time, if not ahead of schedule with a major project that is smoothing out the ride on Illinois Route 140 from Alton to Bethalto.  A complete resurfacing is in progress, and will continue well into the fall.  It is a $5.4 million project.

A couple of months ago, a bad batch of asphalt was laid near Alton, but that has been the only major hiccup so far, according to IDOT Field Engineer Joe Gasaway.  He says work is progressing nicely, and one of the more ambitious parts of the project - eliminating the islands in Cottage Hills - is nearly complete.

Gasaway comments

There will be lane restrictions between Annex Street in Alton and Williams Street in Bethalto at various times throughout the project in order to complete the work.  The project end date is still projected to by November 30.
