As forecasters keep an eye on the remnants of Hurricane Isaac, local street departments continue to put in the extra effort to make sure sewer inlets are clear. Alton crews have been sweeping the city for a couple of days, and in Godfrey, Maintenance Director Jim Lewis says his department has been doing the same.

He says the smoke testing the village has performed over the past several years has helped make sure storm water is not being diverted into the sewer system, which could cause flooding problems.
