LCCC Housing Closer Than Ever

Story by WBGZ Radio

A plan to construct housing for students attending Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey is one step closer to happening, after a rezoning ordinance was given first reading at last week's Godfrey Village Board.  Potential developers of housing geared toward students at the college have been talking with the administration at the school as they consider building new housing units.  The first such development could come at the end of Mulberry Street.

Mulberry Street is located directly across Godfrey Road from the firehouse.  The plan is to build on the seven acres of land that is adjacent to the college's property, with a gate preventing regular access from Mulberry Street.  The gate is cause for concern for Trustee Mike Stumpf.

Stumpf comments

The college's administration has said previously that student housing is a key to continued growth of its nursing, dental hygiene and other trades programs as well as athletics that attract students from outside the River Bend.  There are parcels of land near the school that could hold such housing and the study indicated the need for approximately 68 to 110 beds within a half mile radius.
