Statue Dedicated on 9-11 Anniversary

Story by WBGZ Radio

A small crowd gathered to dedicate a monument to veterans Tuesday at Godfrey’s Glazebrook Park. The ceremony was held on the 11th anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York, Washington DC and near Shanksville, PA.

Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick was joined by other village elected officials, park and recreation staff and local residents for the brief commemoration of the 9-11 anniversary and the dedication of the statue that was donated by Godfrey Rental and Storage.  The statue is of a commonly used memorial for a fallen soldier, of two boots, with a riffle facing downward in between the boots, and the helmet hanging off the top of the riffle.

Business owner Roberta Seehausen was there to present the statue, and observe it’s placement below the flags in Glazebrook. Mayor McCormick called 9-11 his Pearl Harbor, and a date he hopes no resident will ever forget.
