ICC Looking At Future Power Production

Story by WBGZ Radio

The head of the Illinois Commerce Commission is looking to the future of power production in Illinois. ICC chairman Doug Scott says what keeps him up at night is thinking of future power needs and if the resources will be there.

“Interviewers always like to ask people like me what keeps you up at night…something that does give me pause…is how do we ensure the energy future,” Scott said.

He says Illinois “fuel mix” for non-renewable is half nuclear and half coal-fueled power plants. Scott isn’t sure what that portfolio will look like in 2030 but doesn’t think it will look like that. Scott notes that Illinois is a leader in renewable energy like wind and solar power, which may make up a sizable part of the power portfolio.
