Aggregation Meeting Monday in Wood River

Story by WBGZ Radio

The coming opportunities for local municipalities to help their residents reduce how much each address pays for electricity are progressing, with a number of local governments placing the idea on the November ballot.  Wood River is among the Riverbend communities entertaining the idea this time around, and a meeting will be held at City Hall Monday night at 6:30 to inform residents of the ins and outs of the process.

Alton, Godfrey and Bethalto were among the communities to approve the plan in the spring, and those who chose to participate in the aggregation are now seeing savings on their bills.  Good Energy is the company pitching electric aggregation to the cities and towns in our area, and Managing Partner Javier Barrios says there are more savings to be had.

Barrios comments

This is an opt-out program, so if the voters approve the referendum in the spring and cities wind up entering into an agreement, individual electric customers could still choose to stay with Ameren for their electric delivery service.  In addition to Wood River, voters in East Alton, Roxana, South Roxana and Hartford as well as unincorporated Madison County will also be among the growing number of communities considering aggregation.
