Area Cases Named In "Perversion Files"

Story by WBGZ Radio

Some local names are among the more than 14,000 names of Boy Scout leaders across the country accused of sexually abusing young boys between 1947 and 2005. According to a Los Angeles Times database, one man, named Ralph Bailey of East Alton, appears twice on the list in 1964, when he served troops in Alton and Benld.

One unnamed Alton resident was placed on the list in 1993, with another unnamed Alton resident making the list in 1996. A total of five, unnamed Granite City residents were added to the list between 1987 and 1998. An unnamed Edwardsville resident was added to the list in 1995. An unnamed Belleville resident was added to the list in 1996. Three unnamed Roodhouse residents and two unnamed Elsah residents were added to the list in 1997. The most recent addition to the list is an unnamed Troy resident, who was added to the list in 2002.

The names were made public on Thursday following a 2010 decision by the Oregon Supreme Court, which required the Boy Scouts of America to release the files by the end of this month. The files do not include details of the alleged crimes or the victims' names.
