Alton Police Detectives are on the scene after a woman's body is discovered during an overnight house fire. The 43-year-old was located in the basement of the home in the 19-hundred block of Orchard Boulevard. Arson investigators are also on hand and authorities are calling the fire suspicious. The fire broke out just before 2:00am today at a garage, but then spread to the home.
Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold says the woman was already dead when crews found her.

He says more details on her death are expected to be released this afternoon, pending an autopsy and notification of family. No one else was inside the structure when the fire broke out.
