The mayoral bid of Alton businessman and former mayoral candidate Brant Walker is being challenged. Walker (pictured) formally announced his candidacy last May, and filed 800 signatures to get on the April ballot. Now his ability to be on the ballot is coming under the microscope, courtesy of a challenge filed by Donald Groshong.
While challenges are usually filed due to questions about the validity of signatures, Alton Corporation Counselor Jim Schrempf says that is not the case here.
Walker owns and operates Strategic Search Services, an employment placement service. Walker finished second in a four-man race during the last election. He hopes to unseat Tom Hoechst, who is wrapping up his first term.
