There have been plans for over a year to establish a dog park in Alton, and with news that there are now plans gaining traction to do the same in Godfrey, those behind the effort in Alton remind the public that they are moving at a steady pace toward completion. Russell Commons Park will soon see the fencing go up, allowing the dogs to run free.
Hope Animal Rescues' Jackie Spiker says one advantage they have with this location is that it is already a functioning park with many amenities:
She says the plan is to offer membership to the park for Alton residents for $25, and non-residents for $30 a year. All dogs would have to be spayed or neutered before they are permitted access, as Spiker says those that are not tend to be more aggressive toward other dogs.
