The
field has been set for next weekend's prep wrestling sectionals. The Edwardsville Tigers claimed the team title at the Granite City Class 3A Regional yesterday, with twelve wrestlers advancing to the sectional competition next weekend. Alton finished second and will send seven to next weekend's sectional competition.
Elsewhere on the mats Saturday, the Civic Memorial Eagles and Jerseyville Panthers took another step toward state. Five Eagles qualified for the sectional next weekend despite the team turning in a 6th place finish Saturday. Meanwhile, the Panthers finished 7th at the Springfield-Lanphier Regional and qualified four for next weekend's sectional competition.
And the Roxana Shells had a solid day at the Litchfield Class 1A Regional, claiming four championships and advancing wrestlers in 11 of the 14 classes on Saturday. Those 11 grapplers will head to the Vandalia Sectional next weekend. Mt. Olive will send five to next weekend's sectional and a pair of wrestlers will represent East Alton-Wood River next weekend.
